Pastoral Care

Caring & Nurturing

We care about all of our pupils. We offer them the support that they need to be happy and successful individuals.  We care about their wellbeing.  Our small class sizes mean that we really get to know your child.  As you walk around the School you will notice our strong sense of community.

We truly believe there is no single more important part of a school's holistic ethos than the pastoral care it provides.  We know the worth of success in the classroom, on the games field, with art and drama or with music, but there is nothing more vital than a happy child returning home each day, irrespective of success in any of the aforementioned disciplines.

The School is large enough to offer a wide range of subjects and activities yet small enough to enable each pupil to be known and cared for individually.  The Form Tutors are the backbone of the pastoral system, offering support, encouragement and a listening ear.  There is an extensive network of additional care provided by the Section (House) leaders, PSHEE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) lessons, the Matrons, the Deputy Head Pastoral, the Heads of Pre-Prep, Juniors and Seniors, the Office staff and other children.  The Headmaster and Head of Pre-Prep chair the four School Councils which give the pupils a chance to discuss any ideas for improvement.

St Andrew's welcomes pupils of all faiths and there are regular services in the Chapel.

When your child starts at St Andrew’s, they will be placed in one of our four Sections.  Pupils have regular Section meetings and compete against each other in a variety of competition throughout the year, in order to win the coveted Fleming Cup.  Each Section is associated with a different colour and an animal.

At St Andrew's the pastoral care comes from within the whole community.  We are all concerned with keeping our pupils safe and happy - it is our number one aim.

For most concerns and information about your child, the first port of call should be their Form Tutor.

If you feel that your concerns need to be addressed elsewhere, then the Head of Pre-Prep, Head of Juniors, Head of Seniors and Deputy Head Pastoral will be there to help.  Feel free to set up a meeting to discuss any issues you may have regarding the wellbeing of your child.
