In Reception we feel strongly that if a child is happy and safe, then they will feel more confident and be more willing to learn.

Recognising that every child is unique, children in Reception are valued for who they are and are encouraged to develop at a pace that is right for them.  We believe that communication is a team approach and we endeavour to work closely with parents to ensure that every child’s needs are met.

Our aim is to inspire a love of learning and to ignite a spark of curiosity within each child that will enable them to explore and enjoy new experiences through a variety of creative activities, both indoors and outdoors.  We are passionate about working with children and deliver a broad and enriched curriculum that follows their interests and the Early Years Foundation Stage.

The Curriculum covers: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the World and Expressive Arts and Design.  These are underpinned by three prime areas: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language and Physical Development.

Children learn through play with a mixture of child-initiated and teacher-led learning opportunities, in small focus groups, on a 1:1 basis and as a whole class. Specialist teachers provide weekly Music, French and PE lessons.  We actively encourage the growth of social skills and empathy towards others, in addition to a strong sense of self-belief and independence.  We help to lay solid foundations for the future at St Andrew’s and prepare all children for a smooth transition into Year 1.

We look forward to welcoming your child into Reception where new doors will be opened for them and exciting opportunities await.  Let the adventure begin!
