Headmaster's Welcome

Welcome to St Andrew’s

Welcome to the St Andrew’s website which I hope gives you a sense of why St Andrew’s is so special.

Set in 54 acres of beautiful woodland and playing fields close to Pangbourne in Berkshire, St Andrew’s is a co-educational day and boarding prep school for boys and girls with an adventurous spirit.

At St Andrew’s children flourish academically and outstanding results are achieved within our non-pressured learning environment. Most children join us in Nursery or Reception, gaining confidence and independence as they move up from the Pre-Prep into the Prep, with a high percentage of children awarded scholarships as they move on to a range of leading schools at 13.

Within and beyond the classroom, we discover and nurture every child’s passion. We aim to provide the very best all round education for boys and girls in the area; priding ourselves on our innovative sports provision; outstanding music and performing arts and the diverse programme of fun yet challenging activities on offer.

Children thrive in our friendly and supportive co-educational community where every child is valued as an individual. Significant emphasis is placed on pastoral care: social skills, good manners and giving children the tools to become positive contributors to society.

We are exceptionally proud of our beautiful surroundings and first class facilities. Children enjoy very active school days: whether they are climbing trees at break time or building fires at forest school, being active, ‘having a go’ and getting muddy are definitely seen as very good things at St Andrew’s!

While our website provides a taste of life at St Andrew’s, I would encourage you to visit and find out more about life at our School. We would all be delighted to see you and offer you a warm welcome.

Jonathan Bartlett

Introducing the next Headmaster of St Andrew’s

Mr Edward Graham

Mr Graham is currently the Deputy Head at Westminster Cathedral Choir School in London. As well as regularly deputising for the Headmaster, he has recently worked on the development of the school wide curriculum, the opening of a Pre-Prep, and he leads on all aspects of pastoral provision across the school. Over the past nine years, he has also held the roles of Head of English and Head of Sport, and he has taught history and Ancient Greek as well.

Mr Graham was brought up in the countryside in Yorkshire and went to Edinburgh University. He worked briefly as a ship broker but had the vocation to teach. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, playing cricket, amateur baking and spending time with his young family.

From our Chair of Governors

The Governors are very excited about Mr Graham’s appointment as Headmaster for September 2021. He will bring us dynamic energy and vision – as well as his delightful wife and young family. We know that everyone will make him extremely welcome as our wonderful happy School moves into a new era. In the meantime, we must make the most of our last two terms with Jon Bartlett, who I know will do everything he can to ensure a smooth transition to Mr Graham. Felicity Rutland

“My wife and I are delighted to be joining St Andrew's in September 2021. When we first visited, we were struck by the School's genuine family atmosphere and incredible range of opportunities for St Andrew's pupils. Our own two children, who will be joining the Pre-Prep, are equally as excited, but more so about the prospect of the Forest school, climbing trees, and the indoor swimming pool. I'm looking forward to building on the outstanding all-round education St Andrew's offers and meeting the children, staff and parents, both current and prospective. In the meantime, I'll be working closely with Jon Bartlett, governors and senior staff on the all-important hand-over process in the run-up to September." Mr Graham
