fun day 1

St Andrew’s has a thriving Parents’ Association known as Friends of St Andrews (FOSA).

While FOSA is often used to refer to the organising committee, all parents of pupils attending the school, the staff and governors are automatically members of the organisation.

Our main objective is to provide an opportunity for parents and children to mix and enjoy social occasions whilst raising money for the school to buy non essential items from which the children will benefit.

We try to ensure that parents of children throughout the school are represented along with staff from the Pre-Prep and Prep school. Any parent is welcome to apply to join the committee, usually at the AGM in June. We meet around twice a term during the evenings at school. These evenings are busy but enjoyable with a light hearted atmosphere. We also have a team of willing parents who help on an ad hoc basis without being members of the committee.

A group of Year 8 children chosen by the school also get involved with FOSA via "Junior FOSA”. The children work together with the FOSA committee to develop their own ideas for fund-raising and events.

fun day 2

Each form has a Form Rep, whose job is to help the committee communicate information to parents and to co-ordinate activities at events such as Fun Day and other social occasions throughout the year.

A FOSA newsletter reviewing recently held events is issued electronically from time to time.  We also co-ordinate a voluntary parent directory which includes form lists, telephone numbers and email addresses. This is revised annually and issued to each family in the autumn term, further copies of which can be purchased from the school office.

We hold a series of events throughout the year, including several long standing favourites, together with some new innovations to keep things fresh and different. A typical example of events in a school year:

Autumn Term

  • November Family Fireworks Night – with delicious refreshments and spectacular fireworks
  • December Children’s Christmas Shopping, a Christmas Fayre and School Calendars.

Spring Term

  • February Parents Quiz Night - designed by our very own quizmaster, Mr Thomas
  • March Children’s Parties up to year 4 and Club Night from year 5 onwards, or the fantastically entertaining St Andrews’ Has Got Talent evening.
  • March - whole school Easter Egg Hunt

Summer Term

  • May Fun Day – A themed event with stalls and fun for all the family
  • June Sports Days – Pimms, ice cream and other refreshments
  • The school holds a tri-annual Ball which FOSA co-ordinates by forming a separate Ball committee. The Ball is a grand event which aims to raise a significant sum of money for charity and the school.

Any parent who wishes to contact us about events or fund-raising, or who would like to join the committee or the helper team should contact us (the joint Chair of FOSA):

We look forward to seeing you at future events this year.

Items Purchased

As a result of our recent fundraising we have purchased a wide range of items, for the benefit of children throughout the school. All of the items purchased are requested by various departments and are first approved by the Head Master before being submitted to FOSA.

We have been able to provide the school with topic boxes, digital cameras and outdoor furniture for the Pre-Prep, Geography and History aids, a gas BBQ, cricket and orienteering tops for the prep school and a Wii system plus bean bags for the boarders.

Parents have also kindly collected and given us vouchers from Sainsbury’s Active Kids, Tesco for Schools and Clubs, and Nestle cereal box tops which have enabled us to buy many more items for the school such as sports equipment, a seated canopy and numerous fiction and non-fiction books. These vouchers are worth around £1,000 per annum so please keep collecting!

A full list of the current committee and the form reps is available in the FOSA Directory.
